Ever wondered who are the brains behind the NSW Youth Week celebrations? Well let us introduce you to the young people who help make it all happen! But let’s start off with a bit of history…Youth Week is a NSW government initiative which started all the way back in 1989. It has since evolved to being an amazing week of celebrations organised by young people, for young people around the state. It’s all about our youth! (That’s right, we’re talking about you!) Now when we are talking about National Youth Week, what we mean is that the Federal Government, State Governments and Local Governments come together to create a nationwide celebration of youth. Awesome right?
The Indent team are very excited because we have now selected the successful young event teams who will be recieving funding as part of our 2013 Indent Partnership Grants program! The Indent Partnership Grants provide young people with skills, resources and support to stage their own events, take control of their local all ages scene and present a stage for hundreds of young bands to showcase their outstanding talents. The Indent Grant Partnership applicants consist of teams of young people between the ages of 12 and 25. This year Indent received 37 applications from young event teams across NSW, 21 of which are new event teams, meaning an increase of 29% in applicants since 2012. In November 2012, The Hon Victor Dominello MP announced funding for 33 projects as part of the Youth Opportunities Grants program. Now Minister Dominello has just announced a second round of funding for the program, and recently invited applications for the second round, with applications closing March 4, 2013. The grant program will provide time-limited grants to new projects which enable young people to lead and participate in community development activities. Last year, Indent was a successful project recipient for the grant program, amongst many other great youth-orientated projects, which you can find out about by heading here.
