Our Favourites of the Year

Da, Da, Da, another year bites the dust.

Well it’s the end of the year again and what way to end the year than another of those ‘best of’ lists. We’ve rounded up all Indent’s closest contributors, and asked them to liken their album of the year to a flavor of ice-cream and recall their favorite live music moment. Agree, disagree? Let us know on Facebook.

What is your favourite album of the year?
I’ve almost got a three-way tie between Thee Oh Sees, Rowland S. Howard and Best Coast, but I’ll go with Best Coast’s Crazy For You

What were you doing the first time you listened to the album?
I first heard this album when I was with my friend Jett. We were sitting in her amazing garage listening to 60s girl groups when she turned to me and said “hey, have you heard Best Coast?” and from there it went.

If this album were a flavor of ice-cream, what would it taste like?
I’d say it’d be fairyfloss flavoured…sprinkled with pepper so that you could blow it into the eyes of mean boys to make them cry…or sneeze.

If you could play this album in full to anyone, who would that be?
I’d play this album to Keith Richards because he’s who I think about when I listen to the first song off the album…hopefully he’d then get the hint…the first song is called Boyfriend.

Vinyl, CD or mp3?
All three. C’est evolution!

Why this event?
King Khan & The BBQ show because it was their last ever show, it was at a great venue, the music was brilliant and to top it all off, King Khan was insane and mooned the whole audience.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre because…The Brian Jonestown Massacre (fullstop).

El Guincho Pop Negro

Hanging clothes on the line and listening to FBi (who were featuring the album that week). It was awkward though, when ‘Bombay’ came on, because I think there is a prerequisite to dance. Needless to say, my clean clothes ended up everywhere, but boy was it fun.

Pineapple smashed with chili and honeycomb- but it would actually be amazing

kyü’s debut Album Launch

Where?
Paddington United Church

Who played?
kyü and one half of Oscar n Martin. (I think it was Oscar?)

Who were you with?
I went by myself, and quickly got suckered into manning the door, which was the worst part, but I did score myself a sweet vantage point (with one of the few chairs).

Why this event?
It was beautiful. The sold-out crowd sat around a big, old empty church. The face-painted choir was definitely a highlight, the perfect way to see such a lovely band.
