Powerage Takes Out YouthRock Grand Final

A massive congratulations to Powerage from Maitland High School for winning the YouthRock 2010 Grand Final. The guys rocked the stage with all guns blazing- their music was tight, their performance was off the planet and they got the crowd going.

The band were awarded prizes in the ball park of $10000, which included recording studio time, rehearsal studio time, professional photoshoots, CD pressing, equipment for the band, equipment for their school and cash prizes.

In addition to these prizes, the band will also receive internet space for band promotion as well as support gigs with some established bands and artists. All in all, a fantastic prize and well deserved win.

Second place went to Altitude (Dubbo Senior College) who also took out the coveted Silverchair Award. The Silverchair award recognises outstanding songwriting and comes in the form of $1000 cold hard cash.

Sky Squadron were runners up, taking third place in the Grand Final. The guys from St Edwards College in Gosford performed a captivating set and definitely left their mark.

The following bands received Special Finalist Awards, for making it to the Grand Final- an achievement in itself, proving the band’s are all dedicated to their music and are always working hard to push the boundaries to advance their careers in music.

The Chestnuts – Warners Bay High School
Sayd – Toormina High School
Brotherfunk – Winmalee High School
CLICK – Shoalhaven Anglican School
SMS! – Kandos High School. These guys were also Wildcard entries voted in by their peers.

And last but not least Stand For The Fallen (The Forest High) were awarded with the Abdalla El Dannawi Encouragement Award.

A big congratulations to all the bands that entered YouthRock! All the best to them- looking forward to seeing where the bands will go from here.
