Well, hahaha, actually we are back. Welcome to 2010, this has already proved to be a very time for us all here at Indent. Can you say busy, much? So we've announced the partnership grants- congratulations to our successful applicants. We are looking forward to a big year, with more than 100 events being organised by just over 40 Indent teams. Whew! That's a lot of events in anyone's books, and hey, our books are pretty booked out!
Enough of the corny corniness. Let's get straight into some interesting tid bits to tantalise your intrigue and perhaps blow your mind- well, let's not get too crazy ok.
ARTEXPRESS
A selection of works that were submitted for the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) Visual Arts Examinations have been presented in the Art Gallery of NSW, the principal venue for ARTEXPRESS since 1983. This is a big honour to be both recognised and exhibited in a renowned art gallery- so much kudos to those students.
The art includes a broad range of approaches and expressive forms, including ceramics, collections of works, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video and digital media.
ARTEXPRESS has grown from a small, educational exhibition of student work in the late 1950s to become a major touring exhibition that is a highlight of the annual exhibition program in man parts of NSW. During this time, ARTEXPRESS
has gained national and international reputation for its high-achieving student artwork.
The exhibition is open from
14 February - 19 April.
French Film Festival
Parlez-vous français? Not just a catchy line from an awesome song that came in at Number 2 in the Triple J Hottest 100.
"21 years over which the festival has grown, evolved and taken on new forms to finally become the great success which we know today. More than 80 000 spectators in 2009. I am sure that this record will be broken in 2010 when I see the wide range and number of quality films on offer: 43 films in all, comedies, love stories, thrillers of course but also films with a message which say no, no to the injustice of a system, a way of life, no to oppression. At the same time, films which also say yes, yes to human rights, to the freedom of thought and to dignity." -Michel Filhol, French Ambassador in Australia.
There are a lot of great films this year- all in the beautiful language of French, of course. I caught a few films myself last year- always a great night out with mates if you can spare the time. Check out the site for more info on the films and sessions etc.
Tropfest
Their tagline "The World's Largest Short Film Festival" is quite fitting. Every year filmmakers are given a theme to work with, and this year Dice was it. Has that gotten your imagination going? Entrants are shortlisted and then screened to the public at The Domain. This is, of course, FREE! That's everyone's favourite price! So mosey on down to The Domain this Sunday 21st February from 12PM.
Watch this space- we'll be sharing cool things that we come across in our exciting day to day lives. All things video, music, art, you name it- you might find something here. :)
Peace amigos.
