Rukkus
is a drug and alcohol free event, and the only all ages music event in
Mullumbimby. Organiser, 15 year old
Bailey Johnson from Mullumbimby High said “Rukkus was born out of frustration
last year because there was nothing going on in Mullum. We just decided to have
our own event and learnt as we went along how to go about putting it on.”
Bands
this year include Brittle FX and Puss, as well as
local DJ’s Taya, Ungie and Jackie Onassid. The
music gets under way from 5.00pm and finishes at 10.00pm.
Entry is FREE!
Rukkus
will also feature four categories for skate competitors, U/9, U/12, U/16 and
Open from 2.00pm
– 5.00pm. Sign on is from 12.30pm and entry is $5, which includes a sausage sandwich and a drink.
Helmets are compulsory.
There
are also market stalls, a free slip and slide, watermelon helmets from the BYS
Youth Club tipi, and a chill out marquee. Busses will be available from Byron Bay
and the north of the shire.
Rukkus
is a part of National Youth Week and is proudly supported by The Beach Hotel, Santos,
Byron Youth Service, The Echo & Mullumbimby Hire.

Well, after countless hours slaving away, Indent’s A5 sized baby has been born. The printers brought us back a nice big crate of Summer Word of Mouths on March 1, the first day of Autumn. Oh, the irony of it all.
Anyhoo, lateness doesn’t make it any less interesting, and this edition is typically jam packed with fun stuff. We chat to Ed from North Coast band Mitosis, take a look at all-ages venue The Fitz, find out what AMRAP is, show you how to survive Summer Festivals as well as news, reviews, vox pops and interviews. What an extravaganza!
So wait eagerly by the mailbox for your copy (or else the neighbours will steal it, sparking ugly cross-fence confrontations)

Shoreshocked is the premier all-ages event in NSW. It’s been around for many a year delivering awesome bands to all the good little rock n roll children Sydney-wide. And it’s that time of year again. Saturday the 1st of April (the first day of Youth Week 2006) will give rise to the maniacal youth-fest that is Shoreshocked. Back in St Leonards Park (cnr Miller and Falcon St, North Sydney) the event promises to rock once more as it has done for the past years.
This year bands like Shihad, Grand Fatal and Hell City Glamours as well as the finest local talent like Ace Squad, Super FLORENCE Jam and None the Wiser will grace the main stage, with all you hip-hoppers well catered for by the likes of the Milkbar Stars (Pegz, Muph, Plutonic Lab and DJ Bonez), Foreign Heights (Trey, Maya Jupiter and Nock Toth) as well as open mic and MC Battles.
If all that sounds a bit full on, there’s the Slow Down Lounge for a bit of a chill, Dance exhibitions so you can get your groove on, the Fret House (featuring some of the best up-n-coming talent from in and around Sydney) and heaps of rides (including dodgems… excellent).
So get down there! Think about it: awesome bands, jumping, screaming, rampaging and rocking for a whole Saturday ENTIRELY FREE!! Sounds to me like there’s no excuse for absence…
