Sound Barriers is a new youth music forum created by GD Worldwide in association with Indent (Music NSW) to enable youth to get behind the walls of the music industry. Educational, informative, participatory, Sound Barriers breaks down key issues in the industry by acting as an adjunct, a window into an existing music industry event (festivals, awards etc.), allowing youth to peer inside the inner cogs (behind the barriers) that have previously appeared impenetrable. Participants will be granted access to all areas via a panel of industry professionals covering the likes of event management, promotion and band management.

Discussion panels cover DIY business development, including; licensing, royalties, label management, publicity/promotion, utilising the internet, as well as accessing government funded resources and grants available to independent artists and labels. Hands-on production workshops examine techniques, mastering and performing live and will include showcase performances from Sound Summit guests. There are also general discussion panels, special youth events and a demo listening panel, where anyone can submit a demo for live feedback.
The main themes behind Sound Summit are accessibility and knowledge sharing. The conference is an opportunity for independent artists and labels to meet, learn and share information. There are also night-time gigs that showcase emerging talent in Australia and International touring artists.
Sound Summit is the largest festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere and is part of the annual “this is not art” festival which also encompasses Electro fringe, National Young Writers Festival, The National Student Media Conference, EAR and Strike.
